Leica-Like: The Leather-Clad Fujifilm X100 Special Edition

You know how the Fujifilm X100 looks suspiciously similar to a certain brand of rangefinder cameras? Well, it just got even more blatant about copying the Leica look, and this 200-strong special edition is almost Samsung-esque in its copyist ambitions. It is also very, very hot.
The camera is a stock X100, complete with the hybrid [...]

Windows 8 App Store images leaked?

windows 8 app store
Windows 8 images continue to leak onto the Internet, despite Microsoft's wallpaper-based pleas to those with access to the early releases. Today's installment courtesy CNBeta shows the upcoming Windows App Store, which will likely feature prominently in Windows 8.

We've got our doubts about the authenticity of the image. In addition to showing several of the built-in games which already ship with Windows, Opera is listed -- and a competing browser seems like an odd inclusion this early on. Of course, with the browser ballot still in place in the EU for quite some time, Microsoft would probably need to include rivals like Opera and Firefox to stay out of trouble. We're also not sure why Clickgamer is shown beneath Angry Birds instead of Rovio -- the game's actual publisher.

It's still early, of course, so it's entirely possible that the Windows App Store image is genuine but merely using placeholder images and text for now. Anyone else thinking Windows Marketplace might be a more logical name? You know, to keep things consistent with Windows Phone and keep Apple's legal eagles at bay.

The Avengers Has Scenes Shot With an iPhone, So Where Did That $220 Million Go? [Movies]

It's not known if they used the beefed up camera on the 4S or not, but in an interview with the Irish Film & Television Network, Oscar-nominated cinematographer Seamus McGarvey admitted that he filmed a couple of shots for The Avengers using an iPhone. And while he hasn't specified which were captured with what we're assuming was the iPhone 4, they apparently even appear in the first trailer that was released last week. More »

Skype 5.3 for Windows released, improves mobile video call quality

Version 5.3 of Skype for Windows has just been released, with the main emphasis of the new release being improved call quality, and the quality of video received by mobile Skype users. Presumably one party of the video call must be using Skype for Windows 5.3, though.

Beyond improved call quality, not much has changed. You can now see your friends' presence icons when contact cards are collapsed, and the topic editing button is now always visible on the conversation header. For a complete list of changes, hit up the Skype Garage blog.

Ubuntu turns 7, Canonical gets to work on Precise Pangolin

Ubuntu LTS
It was exactly seven years ago today that Warty Warthog, the very first release of Ubuntu (despite its 4.10 version number), hit the Internet and became and almost instant success. In those years Canonical has built the world's most popular desktop Linux distribution and a powerful presence in the server industry thanks to its LTS (Long Term Support) releases. With Oneiric Ocelot in the books, it's time for the team to set its sights on yet another enterprise-friendly and super stable release, 12.04 LTS -- Precise Pangolin. Don't expect any big new features or drastic UI changes, the LTS releases are all about fine tuning what's already there. Hit up the source for a few more details on Pangolin and the more coverage link for the original Ubuntu announcement.
