Winamp for Android beta with SHOUTcast integration and improved UI released

Winamp for Android, new betaA month after the release of its first beta, Nullsoft has just released the next beta version of Winamp for Android. The main new feature is SHOUTcast Internet radio integration, but there's also a host of yummy little changes. Your best bet is to click through the gallery -- but otherwise, read on.

For the most part, the SHOUTcast experience hasn't changed much since I looked at an alpha build a couple of weeks ago. It's a bit prettier, and it's now a lot easier to Favorite a station. Most importantly, SHOUTcast integration just works -- you search by genre, or keyword, and start listening to music within seconds.

On the smaller-but-still-juicy changes front, the main addition is integration with AOL Music. It's now just a matter of two clicks to see a band's discography, biography or photos. You can also pop open a Google search for your currently-playing song, if you're looking for a YouTube video, lyrics, or more information.

UI-wise, there's now a slimmer (4-by-1) home screen widget, which should be much easier to fit in between all of your app icons. The lock screen widget seems to be unchanged, however. Some icons have been altered, and there's a new context menu that lets you set songs as your phone's ring tone (very cool).

In other news, Winamp 5.6 for Windows has also been updated, with most of the changes targeted at improving its new Wi-Fi library sync feature. When combined with the updated

Apple forces PhotoFast to abandon 256GB upgrade kit for MacBook Airs

Remember that peppy aftermarket 256GB SSD upgrade from PhotoFast that easily smoked (on paper anyway) the SSD found in Apple's latest MacBook Air? It's been halted upon Apple's request before it ever went on sale, similarly to those HyperMac batteries before it. 9to5Mac first reported the news based on a source close to the company and we just confirmed it directly with the PhotoFast GM2_SFV1_Air product manager. The risk of losing access to Apple's product licensing program was just too grave a threat to ignore. So, enjoy your 160MBps max SSD transfer rate and 128GB top-end capacity MBA 11 owners, you'll get your storage and 250MBps sequential read/write speed bumps only when Apple's good and ready to provide it themselves -- possibly sooner, we're told, if PhotoFast is given the green light to start sales after Toshiba's SSD modules (Apple's MBA partner) are available for purchase.

Video Walkthrough Of Virgin?s New Project iPad Magazine

Virgin's somewhat highly-anticipated Project iPad magazine went live early this morning. Its focus is on "design, entertainment, technology, entrepreneurs" and its format is kin to other attempts at next-generation magazines, though I'd say this one is more successful. Of course, it requires an iPad with 4.2 to enjoy, and while five or six million of those have been sold, not everybody will get a chance to check this thing out. So I put together a little video walkthrough for you guys.

TopWinPrio gives a priority boost to your focused application window

TopWinPrio's function is mashed right into its name. Once you launch the app, it hides in your system tray and automatically bumps the process priority of your foreground window. If you're focused on an app and working in it, it might as well have dibs on available CPU time, right?

Head to the options window, and you can set TopWinPrio to run at startup, boost Explorer processes, and change the update interval. You can also switch the default process priority from AboveNormal to High or Realtime (danger, Will Robinson!) Your mileage will may vary, of course, though I've found TopWinPrio to provide a nice shot in the arm for my Atom 270 netbook.

On my desktop and full-size laptop, however, I don't see myself switching from Process Lasso. It's much more configurable and offers a slew of additional features.

I found out that I was a diabetic back in December of 2004. As soon as I received that diagnosis, I immediately began working out regularly and stopped drinking regular sodas and eating candy bars for lunch. Within a year, blood tests no longer indicated that I was diabetic. But I grew up watching my [...]

Taiwan subsidizes development for Delta's glasses-free 3D projector and AUO's flexible AMOLED

You know the Taiwanese are pretty serious about technology when you see them liberally throwing cash at factories. According to DigiTimes, Delta Electronics and AUO are two recent winners for a shared NT$600 million (US$19.6 million) government grant, which will cover 45% of each of their research expenditure -- so probably not a fifty-fifty split. If all goes well, Delta will bring out glasses-free, wide-angle 3D projection that's enabled by using multiple high-res LED beamers; whereas AUO will take advantage of the recent AMOLED shortage and develop high-res flexible panels. Nice going, folks, just don't let us catch you all partying on the factory floor with that money.
